This past Thanksgiving I was fortunate enough to head to Salt Lake City Utah to visit my cousin, Molly her husband Bubba and their 3 kids. My cousin and I are super close, we are both only children and our moms are sisters and are also super close, like clones of each other. When they get together it is craziness, they are so alike. Molly is the closest thing I have to a sister and I am so lucky to have her in my life! She was the maid of honor in my wedding, in fact she was the only person in my wedding. I just love her three children, they are adorable. If you actually know me you know that me and children, not the best of matches, but for some reason these kids still like me ;) I love to spend Thanksgiving with my cousin and whenever I can we get together. We have done a few in Vegas, Arizona, and now a few in Utah and we even spent a year in Valencia.
We had so much fun on our weekend adventure. Danny and Bubba get along great, they have so much in common... they both have been in the military for ten years and of course the most import part they both like beer and football! Molly cooked an amazing meal, we had so much food. I tried to be as helpful as possible in the kitchen, but if you know me cooking, also not my specialty! After dinner I took a nap
and then we were off to do our favorite tradition, Black Friday shopping!! Every year without fail no matter where we are, we always hit up the Black Friday sales early. Well not as early as the guy in his tent outside of Target wednesday evening {see picture below}.
First we headed to Michael's and then on to Walmart. Walmart was insane! We got there around 9, the sale started at 10, and the place was packed. Since they are 24 hours the lines are inside of the store. Typically they make you wait until the sale starts to start grabbing like madmen, but this year when we got there everyone already had their stuff in their carts and were waiting in line for the registers to open at 10. I will NEVER go back to Walmart on Black Friday, there were way too many people and not classy people either. Walmart is after all where the woman pepper sprayed her fellow shoppers.
Kohl's was the next stop, we arrived around 10:30 and got into line, which quickly grew and grew and grew until midnight. Just before midnight a group of about 60 or so people were hovering around the front of the line, appearing to be ready to charge in front of the line. The Kohl's employees were not going to take that so they made a human chain red rover style around the front of the line near the door. We of course had bought the newspaper earlier so we scoped out exactly what we were there for... we actually bought two ok ok three newspapers that day! I wanted the Oneida silverware set for 16, marked down from $159.99 to $47.99, plus I had a ten dollar off coupon from the newspaper and a 15% off coupon since my cousin has a Kohls's card. With all the discount I only spent about $32 on the silverware set, which by the way I ran for and by the time I grabbed it, the boots I wanted and came back 10 minutes later they were gone! I am so glad we got their early and midnight is so much better than the 3am lines we used to wait in. Merven's was always our go to spot, but ever since they closed and Kohl's appeared, it has and will remain our spot for the best black friday deals.
{sorry for the blur, it was dark and they were taken with my phone}
As always I had an awesome time with my cousin and can't wait to see her again next year! Looks like the husbands may not be around, but I know we will still get together and shop ;)
XOXO,
Annie
